Teaching Philosophy

My goal as a teacher is to help my students play music and achieve their individual goals while getting the best possible sound from the guitar.  After a solid musical foundation is established, I have found that technique is learned best when in tandem with repertoire that supports it.  While I encourage my students to explore various and any genres of music, I do request that my students are open to learning technique as it equips the student with the skills necessary to tackle any genre of music.

Zach is, of course, an accomplished and skilled guitarist, with years of professional experience. This is only to be expected from a teacher. But Zach also loves to teach. He has an inexhaustible supply of patience for all students. Never will he criticize a student, but only suggest a better approach to the music. He chooses pieces with care, to emphasize a particular area that needs attention. He combines easy-going friendliness with scrupulous attention to the student and the music. I’ve been a student of Zach’s for over three years now, and I think I made a wonderful choice.

Zach is an amazing instructor—incredibly knowledgable, dedicated, and experienced, and he makes himself available over text and email to answer questions between lessons. He really helped me with breaking down challenges into small, discrete skills. Would absolutely recommend whether you’re an absolute beginner or an experienced player looking for more training.

Student Materials

Materials that are required for a successful experience in both lessons and practice include: An instrument, strings, a foot-stool, music stand, and a metronome.  Typically, I will give a short weekly listening to my students as it is my belief as a teacher that exposure the varied music available to guitarists will promote musicality and excite students about potential results of their practice.

Zachary is an excellent and dedicated guitar teacher and musician. I recently started taking lessons with him and I am very pleased. He is accessible for questions outside of class, explains things very clearly, tailors the lessons to my abilities, and is a nice guy. My highest recommendations!
